Kings Park Winter 2019

A collection of photos after a trip to Kings Park in Perth. This was in Winter and I’m keen to go back now that it’s heading towards the end of spring as there’s so much variety in their gardens. Continue Reading

Trip Down Memory Lane

Looking through a backup drive I found hundreds of old pictures from the past 18 years of my backyard, produce I’ve grown and aquaponic systems that I’ve built, so I thought I’d put the best of them into one post so that I have a reference.  The picture above was three different varieties of beefsteak tomatoes from the “crazy tomato year”. I grew about 40 different varieties of tomatoes in the one year. Continue Reading

Turn a Van Into a Home Part 4

Getting oh so close to finished now. A quick trip up to Perth as I had a warning light show up on the van which needed seeing too, turned out to be an intermittent fault with the alternator that’s being replaced today. This has given me a good chance to have a bit of a shake down of the van, see how all the living aspects of of the fit out are working or are going to work in real life.

TURN A VAN INTO A HOME PART 3

I know, very boring first picture. Things are moving forward with the van build, the electrical side is taking shape with the batteries installed and some of the major wiring done. Strange to think that as I update with this new blog post the van is in having the 240V electrics done while the last time I made a post the van was having some of the 12V electrics installed, and I’m sitting in the same cafe, my blogging cafe.

Turn a van into a home part 2

Slowly but surely the van is starting to take shape and look less like a delivery van, I can’t begin to imagine how long it’s going to take though I’d read and watch videos of people completing builds in a matter of a week, some even shorter than a week. I imagine that this is going to take me at least 3 months. Perhaps because I’m a bit of a procrastinator, partly because there’s a lot of waiting on items coming in and often because one job will be delayed by another job, you always have to be thinking. Turning a van into a home

So it begins. I have a blank slate of a van, empty, like completely empty, no internal body lining or flooring apart from a rubber mat on the steel floor. I have about 137,672 ideas about how I want to convert it and what I want to turn it into, yet no real set idea or plan and basically no skills in this department. Should be an interesting journey, certainly a different experience and hey isn’t that what life is about, experiences. Continue Reading

Plants around Denmark

Time to post some more plant pictures, I’ve been taking a few since finishing my Bibbulmun walk and finally I’ve spent a couple of days sorting through them all. This picture above was strange, it looks like the flower is floating in blackness, but as with all the pictures I take it, was during the day and the photo hasn’t been edited. Continue Reading

Bibbulmun Part 12

Mt Cook to Kalamunda Yes, that’s the trail turned into a river in the picture above. Getting close to the end now and I’m not too sure how I feel about that. Every morning I’m convinced that I’ll turn around and walk back another 1000km, while every evening while laying in bed with aching feet and legs I curse myself for having such foolish thoughts. We’ll just wait and see, finish the walk first. The walk from Mount Cook to Monadnock began quietly enough though within half an hour a guy came running down the trail towards me, I stepped to one side and he ran by with a quick “G’day”. Bibbulmun Part 11

Dwellingup to Mt Cook It seemed like a very short walk today to Chadoora. OK, it didn’t just seem like it, it was short at only about 13km from where I started at my friends place out of Dwellingup. Some would probably walk on and double hut as it’s only 15 km to the next hut but it’s Mt Wells and I don’t fancy the thought of finishing a 28km day with a climb up a mountain. If walking N2S it’s probably well worth a double hut as most of the walking is fairly flat and by this stage of things you’d have a light pack with no food and you’re probably getting desperate for a shower and some real food.  So it’s 1.00, I’ve set up camp, had lunch and I’m just enjoying the serenity with the sound of black cockatoos squawking and cracking nuts.

Bibbulmun Part 10

Collie to Dwellingup  Nice days walk today without to many hills but my pack is heavy with a 6 day resupply. Yeah damn long day, ran into a couple of people along the way walking south stopping for a bit of a chat. there were some lovely sections of forest where the larger trees were more spread out and low acacias covered the ground between the trees, some sections were in full bloom and looking magnificent.
