Christmas

Christmas comes in many shapes and sizes for different people and this may be one of the last Christmases I spend with family in a while, who knows where I’ll be in twelve months time, I could be on the other side of the country. So this is Christmas in a 100 year old house that’s been set up as a museum called Wynella. (that’s a whole different story you can read about here)

You’ll have to excuse the photos, I had to grab these from facebook after my brother and sister in law posted them. I had taken my camera with me, but forgot to take a single photo.

Christmas in Australia is a little different to the northern hemisphere, here we generally have it hot, it’s getting well into summer and I’m used to having temperatures up around 40 degrees C (104 F). Down here in Denmark on the south coast of Western Australia it’s a bit cooler, averaging around 25 C (77 F) for Christmas day.

We had a bit of a battle with flies over lunch, it seems that they were as happy about the food as the rest of us. This is one of the down sides of Christmas in the bush, over on the back of the couch is a plate with some turkey and ham on it, hoping to entice them over there. Of course it didn’t really work, they wanted the mother load, the whole turkey and ham in the middle of the table. This led to lots of frivolity with everyone trying to catch and swat the flies before they land on the food, I managed to injure myself hitting my own fork while trying to swat a fly, drawing blood from my finger.

My Sister in Law Sharon managed a spectacular palm slap onto her plate killing this fly, luckily this was towards the end of her meal.

What do you do on boxing day? Eat leftovers of course.

I’m trying to make up for Christmas day by getting a few photos. Cold Turkey, ham and freshly made bubble and squeak using all the left over vegetables. All this eating might take a few days to get over.
